Founded in 1898 and joining the Swiss Football Association two years later, BSC Young Boys were quickly thrust into competitive action for the 1900-01 League season. The newcomers kicked off their regional second-tier West group in style, winning7 of their 8 games and scoring 39 goals in the process.
This earned Young Boys a play-off against Fortuna Basel for the Serie B title and, though the game was narrowly lost 3-2, promotion to Serie A was earned regardless. After just a single season the club was already making strides towards overtaking FC Bern as the city's preeminent football club.
