The 1982-83 season brought major change for Internazionale with the arrival of Rino Marchesi as coach and significant changes in the playing squad. World Cup winning defender Fulvio Collovati crossed over from neighbours Milan to complement the fast emerging Bergomi,Ferri and Zenga, while two new foreign stars arrived in Hansi Müller from Stuttgart and the Brazilian, Juary from Avellino.
In strong contention for the Serie A title until late in the season, points dropped in home games against Pisa and Torino cost them their championship changes and ultimately resulted in a third-placed finish. The ever prolific Allessandro Altobelli contributed 15 goals and was comfortably the teams biggest goal threat.
